The VA is the single largest provider of HIV care in the United States.1,2 About 44% to 46% of veterans get tested and >31,000 veterans receive HIV care each year.2 As of April 2022, the US military cannot discharge HIV-positive active-duty personnel or bar them from becoming officers due to their HIV status. This change impacts nearly 2,000 HIV-positive active-duty service members.A study of HIV treatment at VA medical centers identifed factors contributing to improved patient outcomes.4
