Medicaid expansion, Medicare reform: The Policy & Practice Podcast

While the Obama administration was out pitching the Affordable Care Act last week, a leading Republican lawmaker unveiled what is likely to be the GOP game plan for the new Congress.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the administration is trying to get the word out so that the millions of Americans who will be eligible for new health insurance this fall understand how to get that coverage. She also urged governors to take the administration up on its offer to pay the cost of those who will be newly eligible for Medicaid.

Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) and Republican Rep. Joe Heck (R-Nev.) present a bipartisan bill to repeal and replace the SGR.

She came close to calling it an offer they could not refuse.

Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor talked up the Republican vision for health policy in the coming year. Reforming Medicare will be high on the list, but the words "premium support" did not cross his lips.

And Republicans and Democrats announced that they are willing to work together to repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate formula.
