Planning for Alzheimer's: A Special Podcast

The overarching goal of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease is to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer's disease by 2025. As a part of the plan, the federal government is investing money for research and support for caregivers and families and has launched a website, www.alzheimers.gov, which contains information and support services for patients and their families.

One of the biggest challenges facing the government and insurance companies is figuring out which services to provide and how to pay for them. Mayo Clinic neurologist and Alzheimer’s disease specialist Dr. Richard Caselli argues that some of the available methods for helping to diagnose the disease, such as PET amyloid imaging, are most applicable to young dementia patients.
